I was in my late twenties when the foreclosure notices started showing up at my sister’s door.

I remember the heavy silence in that house. I spent weeks sitting across from her at her kitchen table, watching the terror slowly settle into her eyes every time another certified envelope landed on the counter. It was a suffocating kind of fear—the kind that makes the walls feel like they’re closing in, makes your chest tight, and makes every single option feel completely impossible.

As a man, and as her brother, instinct takes over. You feel like you have to be the anchor. You feel like you need to be the one with the answers—the one who can step between your family and the storm, take the hit, protect them, and fix it.

Instead, I was completely powerless.

I kept offering hollow reassurances, telling her everything was going to be fine, trying to sound steady when the truth was I was just as terrified as she was. We didn't understand the legal notices. We didn't know the timelines. Sitting there watching the weight of losing everything crush my sister—knowing in my gut there had to be a way out, but being entirely blind to what it was—was a gut punch I will never forget. That kind of helplessness doesn't leave you. It stays in your bones.

What broke my heart then, and what drives everything we do today, is knowing she didn’t have to suffer through that silence. There were real answers; we just didn't know where to look, and no one reached out with an honest lifeline before the clock ran out.

I couldn't give my sister the answers she needed back then. But I built this company so you never have to sit at that kitchen table feeling powerless or alone today.
